Upperline Financial Planning is a fee-only, financial life planning firm based in New Orleans.
What does that mean? Fee-Only means that the only revenue we earn is the amount that we agree upon. We don’t earn any commissions for recommending products or investment management fees on your assets. We feel this eliminates the conflicts-of-interest that are traditionally present in financial planning relationships, and allows us to place our clients and their life goals, not their money, at the center of the relationship.
Financial Life Planning
Financial Life Planning is a recent evolution in our industry. Historically, when you first meet with a financial planner, you’d get asked a series of questions about your income and expenses, your investments and debts, and then talk about when you might want to retire. Money is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master. What if we started with questions about your life and goals? Questions like:
- What do you most look forward to about the future?
- What are the top things you’d like to accomplish/experience in your lifetime?
- How would you like to be remembered someday?
- What would a great relationship with a financial planner look like?
Until we first know the answers to these more impactful questions, we can’t possibly make recommendations about all of the traditional financial planning tools like insurance and investments.
Can I afford Financial Planning?
People often tell us they would like to work with a financial planner but they don’t feel they have enough money to invest or don’t earn enough to afford one. Our rate structure allows us the opportunity to work with everybody: from young professionals laying the foundation for their careers, to entrepreneurs launching the companies that they’ve dreamed about for years, to retirees hoping to get the most from their money as they move away from an 8-5 workday into spending time with their grandchildren or traveling the world.
